| The book was indeed "slight" (as Kaysen described it in an interview), but to add lesbians / family much more to it would be to belabor the point. Your vagina has rebeled, your vagina has died, it's horrible - we get it. The terse prose was perfect lesbians / family for the subject matter, and the imagery was lovely. It was also a very quick read - a nice change from long, depressing literary novels. I disagree with the reviewer who said that getting into the "old age" portion was a bad thing - it's part and parcel to how lesbians / family the author was feeling - her vagina hurt, she's getting old, she's no longer sexually attractive/active... Also, to the person who said they didn't know how old she was, she told us she was in her 40s.I think every woman should buy this book - to support Kaysen, and to prove that we care about what happens to our bodies. |
