| As my doctor said, it was only after men vintage departures started getting irritable bowel syndrome (or admitting to it, I should say), that any research and treatment came about. The book was indeed "slight" (as Kaysen described it in an interview), but vintage departures to add much more to it would be to belabor the point. Your vagina has rebeled, your vagina has died, it's horrible - vintage departures we get it. The terse prose was perfect for the subject matter, and the imagery was lovely. It was also a very quick read - a nice change from long, depressing literary novels. I disagree with the reviewer who said that getting into the "old age" portion was a bad thing - it's part and parcel to how the author was feeling - her vagina hurt, she's getting old, she's no longer sexually attractive/active... Also, to the person who said they didn't know how old she was, she told us she was in her 40s. |
