The ads for the film made it and its star cult hits. By the time he changed his name and made his second chicago theater hard-core movie, chicago theater 1974's "That Boy," Berlin was a cult celebrity known for skintight ensembles he created using everything from bedsheets to women's tights. "From chicago theater the moment I saw him, he became an indelible image," says author Armistead Maupin, who appears in "That Man." "Very few people were walking down Castro Street in white tights and a leather jacket. There's a comic tinge to his eroticism; he's too preposterously doll-like to exist. I think of him as the Bettie Page of beefcake." Berlin describes his sexual aesthetic as "a great game of seduction. You don't need to see me naked; it's an expression with fashion and the hidden thing -- it's hidden and it's not. It's very obvious. It's obscene and very hot.
