We are calling on the UK government to mother support a European Convention on Trafficking that goes beyond existing international standards and puts the human rights of trafficked people at the heart of European efforts to combat trafficking, regardless of whether trafficked individuals co-operate with prosecutions. This convention is desperately needed. It will be the first piece of international legislation to require - rather than merely recommend - states to take action to protect the mother rights of trafficked people. Write to your MP and ask them to contact the politicians mother that represent the UK on the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, urging them to support a European Convention on Trafficking that contains the following minimum measures: Competent authorities should be trained to accurately identify trafficked persons and there should be a right of appeal against such identification decisions to an independent and impartial body Trafficked persons should be allowed a reflection period of at least three months, allowing them to remain in the country legally while they recover from their ordeal Trafficked persons should have access to a full range
