I think our subconscious mind is protecting us against reality, as part of some primal survival mechanism. Vacations are supposed to be a pleasant escape from the drudgeries of everyday life. When you know in your heart that those drudgeries are, in fact, the best part of the deal, it kinda up-ends the whole exercise.
