Almodovar seems to have entirely abandoned standards in preference for unqualified support for any and all choices. Since all of the principal characters in this film are women (or half-women in some cases), each viewers perception of the competing merits of unconditional support versus promoting basic standards of moral behavior (however you define mature adult movies it) will also determine how each viewer feels about Almodovar’s portrayal of women. It is interesting, for example, that one reviewer states that mature adult movies All About My Mother is an “out and out tribute mature adult movies to womanhood” and another calls it a “moving tribute to women” but a third concludes that the film has a “strong undercurrent of resentment toward women.” The women in All About My Mother, taken collectively, are admirable in how they support one another, but, by the end, Rosa has died and both Nina and Agrado could just as well have perished from their risky choices.
