When I saw it last year, life after the life closing scene where they met for the last time, the movie didn't quite feel complete. The end seemed anti-climatic with the characters ending their friendship over infidelities. What life was missing was the kiss that showed Diego and Gael's characters had been in love with one other all along. In their pursuits of each other's girlfriends they were really trying to lay claim to each other. The reasons their friendship dissolved wasn't because of jealousy but because they feared their desire for each other. Whenever conservatives try to lambast sexual content in movies, they always dismiss it as being gratuitous, but sex is an integral part of our lives and having sex scenes in movies is necessary for what it reveals about us as individuals. When the editors removed the more graphic sex scenes and the gay kiss, they perverted the intent and the message of the movie. Without the scenes that the editors tossed to the cutting room floor, the movie seemed to be a simple tale of jealousy and boys trying to lay claim to their girlfriends, instead of what it really was, a deep and thoughtful look at sexual repression and the explosive nature of desire.
