TBS: It’s been almost 20 years beach voyeur since the part of your life detailed in GIRLBOMB ended. How have your friends who didn’t know you then reacted to your story? JE: Friends who know me now are surprised about the things they learned in the book, even though I’ve been pretty upfront about my past, and have written about it before. A story called “Shelter Happens” was published in New York Press in 1993. I guess I’ve changed a lot since beach voyeur then. But they mostly react with a lot of sympathy for the girl I used to beach voyeur be, and praise for the person I am now. TBS: Since many people view memoirs more warily than before the Frey and JT Leroy scandals, did you take that into account when dealing with your editors and publishers? JE: Well, I’d been sharing pieces of my archives with my editors all along, for fun, like, “Here’s a picture of me and Sebastian.”
