| And women's studies general the fact that kids are developing sexually at a much younger age than, say, women's studies general 20 years ago, is one that cannot be ignored. 8 year old kids are experimenting with sex, for various reasons, and many are at huge risk (pregnancy, STD's, HIV, etc.). We cannot just pretend that this is a lack of morals; we must act. The only way forward is to teach children about sexual development, sex, STD's, pregnancy, rape, etc. and encourage them to speak about their experiences, to ask questions, and to women's studies general discuss thir issues, so that they feel comfortable and empowered; it is only then that we can hope that they make the right decisions. We cannot preach about morals in our contemporary society, when the media- including the internet, tv, etc.- are such an invasive and integral part of our modern lives, and disseminate a different message (that is, different to the messgaes put forward by Religion and the dictates of morality). |
