Harder great than decreasing my drug use was quitting thumbsucking, after 25 great years of continual thumb abuse. The rest I sort of aged out of. TBS: Is your next book a continuation of your life story, post-GIRLBOMB? JE: The manuscript for great my second book, The Incredible True Love Story of Janice and Sam, is due in December, and it’s about the relationship I formed with a brilliant homeless junkie I met while volunteering at the shelter where I used to live. TBS: You write about the times back then when you were on drugs. How were you able to recall those situations? Since your brain at those times wasn’t necessarily fully functional. JE: For the drug episodes, I really tried to sensorially recall what it was like to be on those drugs, and wrote from there. I don’t think I’ll ever forget what it felt like to be that fucked up—which is why I don’t get that way now. TBS: What was it like to kick the drug habits that were so drunk much a drunk part of drunk your adolescence? JE: Kicking coke was dramatic. The rest sort of kicked itself, for the most part, over the past eighteen years. I didn’t want to do acid anymore, because it was too exhausting; the hangover from X became too much of a deterrent.
