| I really love the idea of them, and make a conscious effort to visit as many as I can. Of course, I'd been to the one in our town many times before, but almost always on plump weekends. I couldn't remember experiencing it on a weekday, to take in its true flavor. When I walked in I was a little surprised there wasn't more activity. I was expecting a lot of talking, and waitresses moving about, plump and clanking of silverware, and laughter. But there plump was little of that. A fat man sat at one end of the counter, eating silently, and two guys wearing gas company (?) uniforms were at the other end. Two or three of the booths were occupied by families, so there was no interaction among the patrons. Very disappointing. I sat down at the counter, a couple of spaces from the fat man, and greeted him with a good morning. He grunted in my direction without looking up. |
