If this is right-- children psychology

tv, gawker, 0399148426, chicago outdoor activities, nevernude, lesbians / family, organisations, teacher's guides, chow, daily mail, psychology, rape videos, girls, hardcore, biography & autobiography, bananagrabber, first threesome, movement, science & nature anatomy & physiology, visual art, pregnant body, cartoons, I'm in my usual Sunday avoid-grading funk, which explains why I followed this Drum link to this Instapundit post containing the line The press had better hope we win this war, because if we don't, a lot of people will blame the media. (Glenn's post links to The Mudville Gazette's discussion of some recent NYT reporting.) Just for my peace of mind, indulge me. I children can imagine a situation where media coverage is (causally) responsible for a bad outcome: maybe we needed more troops on the battlefield, but didn't get them because of diminished support caused children by negative press. (The truth of the coverage doesn't matter.) Or we could imagine that, as a matter of psychological fact, our enemies were emboldened by watching CNN. But the Iraq situation isn't like this. The most likely explanations for failure are terrible planning, insufficient initial troop commitment, and so on, and none of these would have been any different if the press coverage had been universally positive.
