If it's a "woman's disease", there just isn't psychology of women research done on it, which means the doctors don't know what causes it, which of course means the doctors don't know how to cure it. As my doctor said, it was only after men started getting irritable bowel syndrome (or admitting to it, I should say), that any research and treatment came about. The book was indeed "slight" (as Kaysen described it in an interview), but to add much more to it would be to belabor the point. Your vagina has rebeled, your vagina has died, it's horrible - we get it.
